Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS NUTRITIONAL THERAPY?

Nutritional therapy is an evidence-informed, whole-body approach to nutrition and lifestyle which works alongside conventional medicine. Rather than simply addressing symptoms, this approach seeks to uncover potential underlying causes of ill health. It empowers individuals to take control of their health through personalised nutrition and lifestyle support.

WHAT MAKES YOUR APPROACH UNIQUE?

What sets my approach apart is my personal understanding of the challenges that individuals with MS face, both physically and emotionally. Having experienced my own journey of being diagnosed with MS and delving deep into research, education, making significant nutritional and lifestyle changes myself, I really appreciate the journey you are on. This firsthand experience fuels my passion for empowering others to optimise their health and not settling for a diagnosis.

I also understand that there may be other health challenges you are facing in addition to MS, and I recognise how these interconnected factors influence each other. This comprehensive perspective allows me to work holistically, addressing the intricate links between various aspects of health.

My journey has led me to graduate with distinction as a Nutritional Therapist from the College of Naturopathic Medicine, and my affiliation with the Association of Naturopathic Practitioners reflects my commitment to excellence. With this wealth of knowledge and expertise, I am here to guide you on your path to wellbeing, helping you navigate MS-related challenges and embrace a healthier, more vibrant life.

When do you offer appointments?

I offer initial consultations and progress calls throughout the working week with some evening availability. Please let me know in your discovery call when you would be available.

What is functional testing and is this included?

Functional testing can provide invaluable insights into the health status of individuals with MS. These tests delve deeper, uncovering underlying factors that contribute to your well-being. By examining markers such as nutrient deficiencies, inflammation levels, hormonal imbalances, and gut health, we gain a comprehensive understanding of your unique needs. This knowledge guides the creation of a targeted nutritional protocol that addresses your specific challenges. Functional medicine testing not only helps me tailor a precise approach for your MS management but also provides a roadmap for optimising your overall health and well-being.

The costs of testing are not included in the programme prices and all tests are optional.

What functional tests might you recommend?

Here are some examples of tests which may be recommended help tailor your personalised nutrition and lifestyle plans.

  • DNA testing – a range of tests allowing a deeper understanding of your individual health, and areas that may require further nutritional and lifestyle support.
  • Genova NutrEval – a comprehensive profile for identifying nutritional deficiencies and insufficiencies.
  • Cyrex antibody testing – antibody testing for the monitoring of autoimmune conditions.
  • Viral panel – antibody testing for a range of viruses to help identify those which may play a role in autoimmune conditions.
  • Comprehensive stool analysis (with assessment of the gut microbiome) – a digestive function, intestinal inflammation and intestinal microbiome profile to investigate the cause of gastro-intestinal and non-gastrointestinal conditions.
  • Total thyroid panel – a comprehensive test to check the function of the thyroid gland.
  • Blood tests (some may be requested via your GP)
  • Urinary organic acid analysis – a test which looks at the byproducts of chemical reactions which are excreted in the urine to offer a comprehensive overview of your health.
  • Heavy metals testing – a test to measure the levels of possibly harmful metals in the blood.
